I just read James Farmer’s announcement that edublogs.org just crossed the 100,000 hosted blog milestone. That is incredible! Can you imagine trying to get your arms around 100,000 blogs?

This is one of those things that get under my skin when you read pundits making sweeping generalizations about “All blogs are ________” or “Blogging is just __________” How can you make those judgments, at a scale of the number of blogs that exist? How do you put your arms around that?

100,000– It’s a magic number, and many.many of them are the voices that are now free to publish (for free) and express themselves. That’s powerful.

100,000– I can remember stopping my 1973 Ford Maverick outside of Albuquerque, New Mexico, to watch the odometer turn from 99,999 to 100,000 — was James there watching the digits flipping?

And I am looking forward to meeting up with James next week in Melbourne.

100,000! and growing….

  1. You know the best thing about James… he is a really nice guy! Provides fantastic support and was nice enough to provide some chocolates for the winner of our 31 Days to Build a Better Blog.

Here is a video that James let me create from audio from a presentation for Leigh Blackall in New Zealand.
